CONFIDENCE
How firmly an athlete believes that he can carry out a play is a measure of his confidence. A baseline analysis of prior performances, training, and preparation yields confidence. Your athletes' confidence increases in direct proportion to how competent or skilled they become.
My own experience with confidence is demonstrated in a game situation (football), where I enter a free flow state whilst playing which allows me to execute moves without consciously thinking about them. When I lack confidence, on the other hand, I tend to overthink a technique or skill and then perform it poorly.
MANIFESTATION
One of the fundamental differences between human consciousness and that of animals is our ability to imagine and construct your own future. If done correctly, it can be beneficial to one's success. Athletes like Connor McGregor and Israel Adesanya have expressed the importance of it in achieving success.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is an excellent example of a manifesting athlete since he would envision himself on stage alongside the best bodybuilders of his day. He was essentially training his subconscious from an early age to make decisions that would lead him to become Mr. Olympia.
You can also visualize yourself performing a particular move or skill so that when the time comes to use it in real life, you'll already be experienced with it.
DISCIPLINE
Easily confused with motivation dripline can be looked at as the fuel on a fire whereas motivation would be the spark. Motivation is temporary and ignites your passion but when it goes away it is the fuel (discipline) that keeps it going.
As Mike Tyson one said, ‘discipline is doing what you hate to do but doing it like you love it’.
MENTAL TOUGHNESS
Perhaps the most challenging characteristic of a top athlete in sports is their mental toughness. Mental toughness is an athlete's ability to persevere in the face of adversity, mistakes, and failure.
